In 2012 I co-organized Studio Urban Nature dealing with the re-establishment of Kolindsund on Djursland. Prior to the complete draining of the lake, which took more than a century to accomplish, it was the third largest freshwater lake in Denmark.
Re-establishing the lake will not only give the local communities around its future brinks new possibilities, but also, and maybe even more so, give the entire Djursland Region a new cultural landscape beacon for many generations to come.
The studio was organized by me and my colleauges Thomas Juel Clemmensen and guest professor Kelly Shannon from KU Leuven, Belgium, in close collaboration with Friends of Kolindsund, an NGO working hard towards the re-establishment of the lake.
The studio is briefly described on pages 77 – 80 in this teaching publication published in June 2013 by the Danish Town Planning Institute. In the short article we also present two student projects by Kerstine Harboe Jensen and Janne Pedersen:
I fully support Friends of Kolindsund in their hard work towards a re-establishment of Kolindsund!
